2011 Beichuan Yongchong High School Art Facilitation Programme
The relocated community of Beichuan’s Yongchong High School is facing the pressure of schooling and of living in a new community.
Art for All‘s artists paid 3 visits during 2011. The aim was firstly to balance their schooling with fun and art activities, and secondly to build relationships among the mixed background of the students. As for the teachers, we provided training in the use of art in classroom, and most importantly, therapeutic sessions for their exhausted bodies and souls.
2008-2010 Art Moving Hearts in Qingchuan 2008-2010
Between 2008 and 2010, Art for All worked with various communities in the region of Qingchuan. The project was a slow process that began with exploratory activities, aimed at accessing the psychological condition of the earthquake survivors.
Perhaps more important was the therapeutic art programmes catered for the relief workers, many of whom have lost loved ones, but at the same time exhausted in caring for others. Training was also provided for local workers, which was a refreshing change from the insurmountable task of physical rebuilding.
After the first series of programme, Art for All led a team of 20 artists in the Summer of 2009 to four villages in the area. The team was specially prepared to face difficult and painful issues with the participants, using art to sooth wounds and discover inner strengths. Special effort was put in showcasing their artworks, plays and music, which drew the wider community together to witness and share the stories and hope that originated from themselves. More about Love@Qingchuan Exhibition “Art Moves – Rekindling Hearts with Art and Love” (2010) was held in Hong Kong to display their artworks and share their vibrant lives to the people of Hong Kong.
